PARENTAL FEEDBACKS FOR HOME SUPPORT
PACKS - 1) Hi Tom, my eldest used your home packs some years ago, and went on to get an A in Maths at higher and is now studying 2 advanced highers (maths and maths with mechanics). The younger two are struggling a little, but I'm sure with your support materials they will soon be back on track - many thanks 2) Tom, I got the level C home support packs last October for my daughter. I'm happy to tell you that she passed her
level C (getting 21/25 for both papers!). Her maths confidence - which was very low - has grown so much over the last few months. 3) Dear Tom, just to say that Dan passed his level E and we're all delighted. These level E test papers will come in handy for our
daughter who's just about to sit her level D.
Tom Renwick continues to support Learning & Teaching Scotland by being the 'virtual adviser' for maths - this requires him to answer on-line enquiries from teachers on aspects of mathematics, from P1 to S6.
Tom Renwick is a registered CPD provider and is now taking bookings from local authority and schools from January 2008. These include visiting schools for a day to work with pupils and their teachers to share interactive mental agility techniques in the classroom, as well as giving twilight talks for teachers and evening talks for parents on how they can support their children with their maths.
He is currently producing actual Wee Red Boxes, one for each of the Curriculum for Excellence levels, with each consisting of 396 sets of flash cards that can be used to enhance fluency in mental agility. Every school in East Ayrshire will get
the complete set next session, since he has agreed to visit every school in the Council for a day each. These boxes will also be made available for any school in Scotland and are likely to retail for £150 per box (or £400 for all three).
New on-line developments will include downloadable pdf support sheets specially written for the curriculum for excellence for both school and home
use, as well as pod casts for helping with key numeracy skills. He is also working with EdNet to produce on-line support for the whole maths range.
Supports already booked for the summer term include visiting 4 Falkirk high schools for two days each to share his experience and expertise at the
S1/2 stage involving him working with the teachers in the maths departments, as well as in learning support. He is also to visit 5 schools in Orkney to share mental agility techniques. He is currently adapting the Maths on Track materials for the Curriculum for Excellence and these will be available sometime next session - see the downloadable mental agility progressions from the Wee Red Box that are already available from the home page of this website (as well as notes for Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2 and Higher). |
