Reviews, feedbacks and pending supports from Tom Renwick, at Maths on Track
Tom Renwick is now booked to support every school in East Ayrshire, next term, as well as others across the country, and he is now unable to take any further bookings till January 2009. The East Ayr supports involve the production of the wee red box for levels 1, 2 and 3 of the Curriculum for Excellence and him sharing the associated interactive mental agility techniques. Many of these supports will take place in the classroom so the pupils will also benefit from the visits! He is also booked to give a number of evening talks for parents to share how they can help their children with their maths and reading (the key skill). You can see the full list of supports from the home page of the MoT website and you may be nearby to one of them in order to consider attending.
The wee red boxes will be available for sale at £150 for each level of the Curriculum for Excellence, level 1 (by the end of P4 or earlier for some), level 2 (by the end of P7 or earlier for some) and level 3 (by the end of S3 or earlier for some). Each wee red box consists of 396 plastic flash cards that are designed to promote fluency in metal agility (accuracy + speed) so then be better at doing sums in jotters (numeracy) and hence better at maths - fluency in mental agility is at the heart of good performance. Parents as well as schools are able to buy these boxes.
He is currently adapting the successful Maths on Track support materials for the Curriculum for Excellence, and these will be available on-line sometime next session for both school and home use. Home users will be able to pay for credits and download practice pages and answers for any of the key skills of the child's / parents choice (rather than having to necessarily buy a full pack). There will also be podcasts available for downloading, based on the successful numeracy techniques that have made Tom Renwick in so much demand with schools and local authorities. The website will keep an account of how many credits are left in any account, and these can be topped up at any time - like having a support on tap for specific skills.
PARENTAL FEEDBACKS FOR HOME SUPPORT PACKS: 1) Hi Tom, my eldest used your home packs some years ago, and went on to get an A in Maths at higher and is now studying 2 advanced highers (maths and maths with mechanics). The younger two are struggling a little, but I'm sure with your support materials they will soon be back on track - many thanks. 2) Tom, I got the level C home support packs last October for my daughter. I'm happy to tell you that she passed her level C (getting 21/25 for both papers!). Her maths confidence - which was very low - has grown so much over the last few months. 3) Dear Tom, just to say that Dan passed his level E and we're all delighted. These level E test papers will come in handy for our daughter who's just about to sit her level D.
