Supports from Tom Renwick

ONLINE (low cost);

For as little as £10, to download practice sheets, including graded assessments tailored to Curriculum for Excellence (see samples in the free downloads), or videos of key numeracy lessons as well as gaining access to on-line versions of the acclaimed Wee Red Box flash cards (see samples in free downloads).

There's also a lot of useful materials in the free downloads, including the mental agility progressions from P1 - S3.

SCHOOL VISITS for teachers and their pupils;

Tom visits school to directly share interactive Wee Red Box mental agility techniques with teachers and their classes, followed by a twilight session for staff on numeracy and the Curriculum for Excellence. This well received CPD support even benefits the pupils, and, the school receives 200 credits to access resources from the Maths on Track website. Cost is £675 / day. Visit the news section to see all the the current bookings for Tom Renwick's school, parent and local authority supports.

SCHOOL VISITS for parents and their children;

Tom gives evening talks for parents on the Curriculum for Excellence and, the school receives 200 credits to access resources from the Maths on Track website. Cost is £225 / evening (of which there are three possible, see below for descriptions).

Note - if the school books both these supports (ie classes during the school day + twilight for teachers + evening talk for parents) the total cost is £825 and the school receives 350 credits. The three types of evening talks for parents are;

• with parents - The Curriculum for Excellence has the potential to help us become more excellent at literacy and numeracy. Tom shares practical tips that enable parents to help their child with numeracy. As well as giving helpful information about Curriculum for Excellence he will share the importance of the 100 grid (the 'numeracy alphabet' to help with + and -) and the stepping stones (to help with x and ÷) both of which are available in the free downloads.

• with parents + children, on active learning -

Curriculum for Excellence encourages an emphasis on the 'how' as well as the 'what', with many pupils now experiencing a richer diet of collaborative and interactive approaches, and discussing and solving problems 'in everyday contexts'. Tom shares examples of what this can mean in practice, and then the family work together as a team - great evaluations and feedback.

• with parents + children, using Wee Red Box flash cards

The Wee Red Box flash cards are the old fashioned but highly effective numeracy techniques which help to promote working memory and processing speed, and can be highly effective on a one-to-one basis. After a short demonstration by Tom you and your child choose any set of Wee Red Box flash cards to do together, at any level of Curriculum for Excellence levels 1 - 4, and, for any numeracy skill.
