Tom Renwick at Maths on Track is a leading in-service provider for Scottish primary and secondary maths teachers. This website is his contribution to the Curriculum for Excellence, to help as many children (and adults) be as good as they can be at numeracy. Designed for school and home use (and based on an inexpensive credit system), the website offers downloadable videos of key numeracy lessons and practice sheets, as well as access to on-line versions of the acclaimed Wee Red Box numeracy flash cards.
The website offers over 150 videos of key numeracy lessons, many of which are based on the visual techniques Tom has directly shared in over 500 schools with some 100,000 pupils and their teachers.
They are categorised into ’on track’ groups for Curriculum for Excellence and are ideal for showing on a smart board for pupils to view, or, for individual viewing at home in the child’s own time.
This link gives the full range of videos http://www.mathsontrack.com/downloads/Free/overview%20of%20videos.pdf or, visit the store to see the ‘on track’ DVD’s which contain both practice sheets and videos (saves all the downloading!).
The website offers over 700 numeracy practice (and answer) sheets for add, subtract, add/subtract, multiply, divide, multiply/divide, fractions, percentages, other number work, other maths, problem solving, and assessment.
They are designed to be downloaded as the need arises, for using on a smart board (in colour) or photocopying for whole class use, or, for individual use at home in the child’s own time.
The sheets get particularly good feedback from parents who’s children are dyslexic, since they are so clearly presented.
Visit the free downloads to see the content for other stages, or, visit the store to see the ‘on track’ DVD’s which contain both practice sheets and videos.
On-line Wee Red Box;
All 80 bundles of the on-line Wee Red Box numeracy flashcards are automatically marked and timed, each with pass marks of 20/20. Fluency can then be improved by doing a bundle faster.
Then, being mentally fluent = good at numeracy = better at maths, and why these well proven / old fashioned techniques can be so beneficial (and gaining ‘Well Done’ awards at Curriculum for Excellence fourth level is actually excellent enough at numeracy).
It only needs 5 credits for 1 hour of access, and the on-line Wee Red Box is ideal for smart board use in the classroom on a smart board, or at home, where children will enjoy and benefit greatly from gaining their ‘well done’ awards, in their own time.
